Presenting Lasko Box Fans

Lasko has a huge range of fans and this includes their line of box fans. In order to fulfill the needs of multiple customers, they’ve created box fans to suit multiple homes and environments.

Best Lasko Box Fans

What these fans promise is a portable and affordable option for use in the home, which is slightly different from what is required in a desk fan or tower fan. They are simple to set up and use and relatively compact.

Lasko box fans are available mainly in a 20-inch size and each of the products in the range is pretty similar, when it comes to design. These fans can save you a lot of space and are a great choice for those who wish to extract things from a room and keep the airflow high.

Though they’re a little different from window fans, they can do a similar job if placed near a window. This means that smells, smoke, and stale air can be moved out and fresh air brought into a room.

Before buying from the Lasko box fan range, consider whether box fans are the right choice for you. They’re compact and usually very portable, as well as good for shifting air, but they’re not the quietest types of fans.

Think about whether the fan’s white noise will be welcome or something you want to avoid and also consider whether the size of the Lasko box fan is going to be big enough to give the power you need.

Features and Benefits

The following features and benefits are common to the Lasko fan range and can help you decide whether they’re suitable for you.

Fans create a bit of white noise and this can sometimes be seen as a benefit and may even help you fall asleep. Even when it isn’t hot, some people use white noise videos, such as the one below, to aid their sleep and relaxation. Lasko’s guide to choosing a fan touches on this noise issue, too.

The price is another big selling point of Lasko box fans. Box fans, in general, aren’t the most expensive type of fan on the market. But there is a bit of variation when it comes to Lasko’s box fan prices, depending on the features, and you might pay more for a weatherproof option, for instance. However, most are pretty affordable.

Most of the fans in the Lasko range have a setting for three different speeds, to allow you to choose the power level you need. This will also have an impact on the airflow and noise created by the fan.

Box fans are relatively efficient, too. The Lasko brand says that their products with “Save-Smart” cost under $0.02 per hour to run and, in this study by creditcards.com, it was shown that some box fans can even cost less than one cent per hour to run.

Portability is another vital feature. As well as being lightweight, all of the box fans in the Lasko range have a carry handle, meaning getting them from room to room is easy. This can make them far more convenient than tower fans, for example.

Final Verdict

All of these four box fans have their own pros and cons.

But when we rate them by comparing their features, the Lasko #3723 Box fan has the highest ratings among all four fans.

This is a splendid fan with many useful features.

It is a fully assembled smart fan that has the capacity to work at low, medium or high speed. To control the speed, an easy to use dial-type switch is present at the top as well. Reasonable price is also a plus point of this particular model.

On the downside, just like all other box fans this unit also has an issue of noise generation at high speed.

A dream model for middle class customers whose main limitation is the availability of resources.

On the second position is the Lasko B20725 Metal Box fan because of its complete metal structure and ability to provide an astonishing amount of airflow.

These features are what separates it from other box fans.

After buying this unit, you won’t be worrying about replacing it for at least 3-4 years. Lasko B20725 is also approved by ETL and OSHA which is a clear indicator of its efficient functionality. Heavy weight due to metal body hinders its portability. Noise production should also be kept in mind if you are planning on buying this metal box fan.

But overall, Lasko B20725 Metal Box Fan is a good choice for people who want to invest in a long lasting product.

On third position in this list of Lasko box fan review is the Lasko Cool Colors 20 inch Box Fan Durable Metal Frame Purple.

This unit is a little bit different in terms of appearance due to its unique royal blue color. This means that it can easily be adjusted even in the most well decorated rooms. A speed regulator is present at the top of the fan with the help of which you can easily adjust its speed. It is an energy efficient fan which means that it will consume a lot less energy compared to other units, more specifically it will save you 2 cents per hour. Five plastic blades provide sufficient air even for large rooms.

Lasko B20308 box fan also has some disadvantages too.

The first one is its noise production which might be a deal breaker for most customers especially the ones that are light sleepers. Another thing that might create some problems for customers is its vibration at high speed settings. This is mainly because of its instable feet that aren’t suitable to handle its high speed vibrations.

Last but not the least is the Lasko 3733 20 inch Fan Box which is considered to be a simple yet efficient at what it’s designed for.

With its light weight structure, you can easily move it around single-handedly. Due to its light weight and plastic blades, the noise production by its operation is minimal at its best which is a plus. Also, it is specially designed to consume less energy compared to its counter parts which will save you a lot of bucks in the long run.

What might stop you from buying this unit is its simple functionality.

Unlike other products, Lasko 3733 doesn’t come with a lot of many features which mainly puts it into a low- medium duty fan category. Another thing worth mentioning is its vibrations at high speed which might be troublesome for some people. In short, this product is designed for lower or mid budget families.

Two of them are twin window fans and the other two are triple window fans. All of their features, pros and cons will be reviewed and compared at the end and it will help you get a clear idea about the performance of the fans.

So let’s have a look at them.

But first…

Presenting Bionaire as a Brand

The Bionaire brand was first launched in Montreal back in 1977 and was being sold in North America by 1983.

logo-bionaire

Image via bionairecanada.com

logo-bionaire

Image via bionairecanada.com

They didn’t start with fans, though. Initially, they made just Air Purifiers and Ionizers, with a focus on improving the quality of the air.

Bionaire’s brand is built on keeping people comfortable, and their website reminds potential customers that most of us spend on average 90% of our time indoors.

This comfort was expanded to making fans.

These were added to the brand in 2001, by which time Bionaire was also making Humidifiers and even Heaters. Between 2004 and 2009 they started to offer their products all over the world, expanding to Latin America, Europe, and India.

Bionaire manufactures its products in Canada, where the company was originally started, so they aren’t outsourced to China or elsewhere.

The company has retained this Canadian base in spite of the fact they were bought out in the 1990s by “The Rival Company”. This is an American maker of small appliances who own other brands including Crock Pot. They were then acquired by the Jarden Corporation in 2005.

Bionaire’s research and development commitments are impressive.

Almost every brand claims to be focusing on new products, but Bionaire regularly releases new models for the home as well as innovations in their range. They commit to thousands of hours of research improving home products, including window fans.

not a bionaire window fan

The Bionaire Window Fan Range

These window fans are an excellent way to harness the fresh air of outdoors and cool your home in the process. There are six currently manufactured products within the range of window fans offered by Bionaire, four of which are compared in this article.

Some of the products only have very subtle differences.

For example, there is a Bionaire® Thin Window Fan with Comfort Control Manual Thermostat within the range and also a Bionaire® Thin Window Fan with Comfort Control Electronic Thermostat. The thermostat is the only difference between these.

The ideal customers for the Bionaire window fans are those who have plenty of suitable windows in which to fit them, who can take advantage of this technology.

Also, think about where your window is in relation to where you are in the room. This article explains the sensation of airflow and how it can help you to feel cool. A window close to your seating area is best.

If you are looking for a fan for a room with no windows then it may be best to go for something like a pedestal fan or tower fan, which don’t rely on a window.

measure your window before buying a window fan

Before you purchase a window fan, think about whether you have a suitable window for the fan to go in, and match up the measurements listed on the product.

For instance, some window fans require a window which is 24-27 inches wide. Some others are more extendable to give more flexibility.

Features & Benefits

What are the key features which tend to be found in Bionaire window fans? Do these products have any specific benefits over other models?

First of all, they are thin and compact.

Bionaire fans are thin without sacrificing any of their power. This means they take up less of the window space in your home and still allow plenty of light to get in. Blocking out the light on a sunny day is not recommended, instead, reap the benefits of letting the light pour in! Many of the Bionaire fans are 25% smaller than their competitors, so don’t restrict your view of outdoors as much.

Second, they’re quiet.

Most of the products within the Bionaire range are pretty quiet even on the highest settings. They are often much quieter than tower fans and desk fans as the sound vibrations don’t travel as easily.

Then, they are adjustable.

All of the fans within the range are adjustable to some extent, meaning you don’t have to stick to the exact size of your window when buying. Instead, you can adjust the sides when you are installing so that it sits flush against the sides of your window. All of the fans have a minimum and maximum window size rather than one rigid size.

They are also backed up by impressive warranties.

A lot of Bionaire window fans and other products have a five-year warranty, so you can rest assured that your purchase is protected if you end up with a defective unit for any reason that isn’t your fault.

And finally, these excellently efficient products can save up to 40% of the energy compared to many other fans.

Harnessing the air from outside the window can allow the fan to function efficiently and save on your energy bills.

  • Quiet operation
  • Regulation capabilities due to thermostat
  • Screen expands to fit larger windows
  • Increased air velocity

Cons

  • No reverse switch
  • No remote control
  • Vibrates at high speed
  • Manually reversible airflow (you have to uninstall, flip and reinstall for reversible airflow)
  • Only one button for all functionality
  • High priced

Conclusion

This BWF0502E compact fan of Bionaire is an expensive product when you compare its features with its shortcomings.

It provides better cooling due to its ability of almost double air flow.

This Bionaire ultra thin window fan also has the ability to adjust in different sized windows (up to 37 inches) due to its extender screen. Its advanced less noise operation is very attracting feature for light sleepers. The striking feature of this fan is that it is designed in such a splendid way that it will provide an extra 40% increased air velocity when compared to other fan units.

When we look at its flaws, the high price is major drawback of this model. Presence of a single push button instead of remote control also made it difficult to use. If you want to change the speed of the fan you have to push the button many times which is clearly not a feasible option for people who want one touch for desired settings. BWF0502E model fans can only work in one direction so to change the direction of air flow one have to go through the cumbersome task of manually removing, turning and then reinstalling the unit again.

Final Verdict

In this Bionaire window fan review we have selected a total of 4 window fans with various great features so that you can easily choose the one that suits your requirements. Now that we have covered each and every fan unit separately, let’s have a look at their performance when compared to each other.

The Best

Among these four models of Bionaire manufacturers, the Bionaire  BWF0910AR-WCU Fan is the best.

This dual window fan has digital thermostat that made it comfortable in use under different environmental temperatures.

Its reverse air flow and quiet operation features give the choice to use this fan either in kitchen or in bedroom without any second thought.

Presence of remote control and LCD display are extra qualities of this splendid model that made it a favorable choice for usage at night.

Although BWF0910AR model of Bionaire company is real gem, only caveat of this fan is its difficult cleaning procedure.

2nd Best

The Bionaire Twin Reversible Airflow Window Fan is second in the list.

This highly efficient Bionaire twin window fan can be used as exhaust fan or airflow fan or both at a same time because of ability of its fans to operate independently. The model is very durable along with the support of 5 years warranty.

Water proof technology makes it a suitable choice for the places where there are chances of rain or accidental water spillage.

Thermostat control of this excellent machine enables it to maintain the temperature of room in a desired range.

Remote control 4.5 meters range allows customers to adjust the speed without bother of going to the fan.

The down sides of this product include noise production at high speed and inability to close fan grills when is not in use.

Third Best

The Bionaire compact window fan is third on the list when compared to others in this list.

This model of Bionaire is small in size but efficient in operation.

The Bionaire ultra thin window fan is equipped with 3 fans that can operate at three speeds (low, medium and high). Due to its built-in extenders screen, it has the capability to fit in various windows sizes.

Absence of remote control and no LCD display unlike the above-mentioned models puts it on the third place. Another major drawback of this model is the fact that its fans cannot function independently.

Fourth Best

Last but not the least is the Bionaire whole-house triple window fan which is a powerful fan that comes with three fans for extra cooling.

However, its dependent fan technology and manual air flow reversing is what made it last on the list.

Its high noise at maximum speed is a deal breaker for most people. However, if you are planning to use it in a kitchen or somewhere other than where you sleep, then it might not be a big problem for you.

So whether you want a dual window fan or you are looking for a triple window fan for extra airflow, you have everything you need to know right here.

Pick the one that meets your requirement and budget at the same time!

Presenting the Holmes Brand

Holmes fans are made by Holmes Products, whose website can be seen here.

The brand specializes in a number of products and, besides fans, they also make air filters, humidifiers, and humidifiers.

The brand is based in Milford, Massachusets and dates back to 1982. The company has changed hands a few times in its history and used to be owned by Berkshire Partners, but now is in the hands of the Jarden Corporation, a massive company with over $8 billion in turnover, annually.

Holmes makes their own products, rather than just acting as a reseller of fans made by other brands. While their Milford headquarters is their base for their business operations, their products are not made in the USA. They have strong ties with the far east, having opened their first factory in China way back in 1989, as can be seen on this government site.

Though Holmes operates under its own brand name, they also manufacture and sell products under other names. The Bionaire and Patton brands are also made by Holmes Products. Though these brands have their own support and head offices, Holmes is technically the manufacturer, so they could be considered sister brands.

Presenting the Holmes product line

Holmes describes its tower fans as being among the more popular fans in their range, due to their “elegant appeal and space-saving profile”. Though elegance isn’t what most people look for in fans, their smaller size is a key component.

Our Holmes 36-inch tower fan review below shows that these products can be tall, but also still be thin and space-saving. There is also a 31-inch Holmes tower fan (also see our review below), the HTF3110A-BTM, which is a shorter option.

Holmes tower fans are compact and certainly thinner than some of their stand fans.

The trade-off is that they don’t create quite as much airflow as a stand fan. However, these fans are perfect for people who don’t have a great deal of floor space and want to create some airflow. They are also suitable for those who don’t have a window in the room they are trying to cool and, therefore, aren’t able to use a window fan.

Holmes tower fans are not suitable for everyone. If you need a huge amount of power or you want to be able to direct your airflow higher then it might be better to opt for a pedestal fan. Though tower fans are compact, if you are really short on floor space then it could be better to go for a window fan or ceiling fan.

Though you may think that fans are an alternative to air conditioning, they actually can be used alongside an AC unit. In fact, if you pair your air conditioner with a fan, it can even save you money, as you will be able to run your air conditioner less or on a lower setting. Modernize.com explains the benefits of combining a room fan with an air conditioner.

Before you make your purchase, think about how much space you have. If you are happy to give up more space and you need to maximize airflow, it might be worth considering a stand fan. Alternatively, if you have a window in your room, you might want to opt for a window fan.

But, if you can only sacrifice a small amount of floor space and value the features of a tower fan, it may be the most suitable for you. This is especially true if you are looking for a fan that rotates and has a remote control, as we see with Holmes tower fans.

Features & Benefits

Holmes tower fans have some distinct features that set them apart from some other brands and from the other fans within their range.

Remote Controls

Most Holmes tower fans are available with remote controls and have multiple settings. This means that you can change the setting of the fan from one location in the room and you don’t have to get up to alter the power. This is especially useful if you are using the product in bed and don’t want to get up to make alterations.

Oscillation and Rotation

The top products in their range, such as the HT38R-U, offer multi-directional oscillation. This is an automatic feature and, combined with rotation, it can fill a large room with a soft breeze.

The HT38R-U fan has adjustable shutdown timers. This is a feature you can’t necessarily get with a desk fan or window fan. Holmes tower fans can be set to automatically shut off after a certain period of time, for instance, you can set it to turn off during the night, just like a sleep timer on a television.

Automatic Shut-Off

By automatically shutting off after you’ve fallen asleep, when your room may be cooler, you can save money on your energy bill. The brand offers decent energy efficiency and is likely to be more efficient and better for the environment if you are replacing an old model.

Portability

The fans in the range are quite lightweight, portable, and they take up very little floor space. There is even a mini fan option, for those who value the portability of the fans. This means they are pretty simple to move from room to room and they even have a carry handle.

If you are looking for a way to overcome the heat wave then you are at the right place. Here, we will review a total of 3 tower fans introduced by Holmes. I’ll also cover all the information you need to know about window fans and I’ll even answer some of the frequently asked questions that I usually receive. Let’s jump right into it.

What Are Window Fans?

Window fans are fans that are designed to be fitted into an open window and they often feature sliding side panels that are expandable, so that the entire window opening can be covered.

Most window fans on the market today come in two styles: two smaller side by side fans or just one large fan.

You’ll also find that most window fans tend to feature two or three speed variations, which allow you to control the speed of the air exhaust or intake.

And, speaking of functionality, there are models on the market that are electrically reversible, allowing you to switch between the exhaust and intake modes. These models are highly recommended over their single-mode counterparts.

Window fans are usually packed with awesome features, such as:

  • thermostats,
  • adjustable grilles,
  • shut-off timers,
  • remote controls.

A window fan with a thermostat turns off automatically if the room temperature drops to a certain desired degree, which helps you save money that would have otherwise been wasted, if the fan remains on.

Adjustable grilles are a great feature to look for in a window fan because they allow you to control the direction of the airflow.

The remote control and shut-off timer features are pretty self-explanatory.

Most window fans today feature a plastic construction, which makes them lightweight, but takes away from their durability. Older models, on the other hand, tend to be made of metal and are much heavier and sturdier than plastic units.

Things to Consider Before Buying a Window Fan

Just like all products, not all window fans are created equal, and navigating through the endless deluge of products on the market can be quite confusing. Here are some tips that you should take into consideration when shopping for a window fan.

Size of the Window Fan

The size of the window fan should be the first on your list of priorities. Ideally, if you’re looking to install a window fan on quite a large window, you should definitely buy a twin window fan. This way you’ll avoid gaps between the frame of the window and the fan itself.

To avoid buying the wrong size, you should look for a window fan that features sliding extenders. With these parts extended, you can obtain a customized fit for your window fan, which eliminates the existence of gaps, keeping bugs and insects from sneaking into your home.

You should also consider purchasing a window fan that features detachable legs, which allows the unit to be transformed into a stand-alone fan, when needed. And remember, a small window fan can be a very strong window fan, don’t let the size fool you.

Types of Window Fan

Window fans are mainly divided into two different categories: intake and exhaust fans.

The main idea behind an intake fan is that it draws cold air from the outside into the house, while an exhaust fan pushes the warm, stale air that’s inside the house to the outside.

How you choose between the two types will depend on the placement of your window fan. On the sunny side of your house, an exhaust fan is the ideal choice because it’ll help push out all the hot air from the room.

On the shady side of your house, however, an intake fan will help make use of the cool air outside by drawing it inside.

Luckily, there are quite a number of units available on the market that are able to perform both functions with equal efficiency. Keep an eye out for models that feature the reverse function because it will allow you to switch between intake and exhaust mode, whenever you want.

Remote Control

Nowadays, almost everything is controlled remotely and window fans are no different. Units that feature multiple speed variations usually tend to have a remote control feature, so that you don’t have to change the speed settings manually.

Durability and Safety

A window fan that’s made of a strong and solid material is certainly going to last longer than one that isn’t. Thus, you should pay close attention to the materials from which the window fan is made, to ensure its longevity.

Another thing that you should pay attention to is whether the blades of the fan are secured or not. Blades that aren’t secured properly by the outer grill of the fan can be quite hazardous. Also, the intake of any floating object can render the fan useless without proper blade protection.

Shut-Off Timer

Although window fans don’t consume as much electricity as an air-conditioning unit, I’m sure you still want to reduce your utility bills as much as possible. A window fan which features an automatic shut-off timer is certainly the smart way to go, as you can set it to turn off in a few hours when the house cools down.

Noise Level

You’ll definitely run across a lot of fans that are a bit noisy, which can limit your options if you’re a light sleeper. However, if some noise isn’t a big deal to you, then you can choose any fan you want.

Weight

Heavy window fans are extremely hard to carry and even harder to install. Make sure that the window fan you’re about to buy has a lightweight construction, to ease the process of moving it from one place to another.

Main Benefits of Using a Window Fan

Apart from their reasonable cost, window fans possess numerous benefits that will surely put an end to all your ventilation problems, without breaking the bank.

Constantly Refreshed Environment

A poorly ventilated area is just uncomfortable to be in, especially if there’s more than one person in the room contributing to the stale air through their exhalation. An example of this would be two people sleeping in a small room. This can lead to many respiratory health problems.

Window fans provide a simple solution to this problem by exchanging the stale air in the room with the air outside. It keeps the room refreshed and prevents any negative health effects.

Low Power Consumption

Did you know that your average central air conditioning system consumes around 3,000 to 5,000 watts of energy when used for about 9 hours per day? And, did you also know that a window fan uses around 35 to 100 watts to run for one hour? This is around 700 watts, on average, in 9 hours. To find out more about your AC’s power consumption, click here.

energy use calculator logo

By energyusecalculator.com

A window fan isn’t going to cost you anywhere near to what an air conditioning system costs. Get yourself a window fan and spare yourself an insane electricity bill.

Maintained Temperature

When it comes to ventilation, air conditioners don’t perform that well. They might provide the desired temperature, but they usually can’t get rid of any unpleasant odors in the room.

Window fans have the ability to exchange the air in the room constantly, which not only helps keep the room refreshed, but also gets rid of unwanted odors and stale air, while maintaining a comfortable temperature.

Great Addition to an AC System

Okay, enough bashing of air conditioning units. You can also work hand in hand with them.

You can use a window fan inside your house to boost the efficiency of your AC system. Like we’ve established, AC systems aren’t capable of cleaning the air within the room, why not combine both appliances together to achieve the most optimal outcome!

Compatible with Most Windows

Most high-quality window fans on the market come with adjustable panels which allow for an easy installation process. In a nutshell, all you need to do is fit the window fan into the window frame with the aid of its panels, plug it in, and enjoy the cool breeze.

How to Use a Window Fan?

The idea behind the direction of a fan’s airflow is pretty simple.

A fan is comprised of two sides:

  • the open side
  • and the grille side

Air flows across the fan’s open side and moves towards the grille side. So, for intake fans, the open side should be facing outside and vice versa for exhaust fans.

Window fans are pretty simple to use because they rely on fairly simple principles.

If you turn the fan on when it’s warm outside, the fan will blow hot air into the room. So it’s advised to turn the fan on when it’s cooler outside, to cool down the air in the room and lower its temperature.

This could also spare you from using the AC at night since the outside air temperature might have cooled off by this time. It’s a good idea to have another window fan installed elsewhere, to help you achieve a cross breeze.

If the nighttime air in your region is not that cool or if it’s highly humid, you should steer away from intake fans, as they won’t be that effective.

During bad weather conditions, it’s extremely important to remove all fans from your window frames. Unless your window fan has a water-resistant motor, a drop of water can lead to serious electrical damage in the fan.

Generally, a common window frame should accommodate most window fans.

You’ll need to insert the fan into the window’s lower frame after the frame has been lifted and the sash has been lowered. This will ensure that the fan is securely sealed in place.

Units that are specifically designed for horizontally-opened sliding windows follow the same installation process.

How to Install a Window Fan?

It’s always recommended to hire a professional to install a window fan, or any electrical appliance, for that matter. However, if you’re planning on taking the DIY route, you should go about it using the following guidelines.

You can also follow this video demonstration of how to install your newly-bought window fan.

  • Pick the Right Placement – Picking the right place for your window fan is pivotal to its performance. The placement of the fan can counteract the effects of condensation and help remove unpleasant odors. When positioning your fan, it should be fairly raised off the ground. Additionally, you should place the fan in the place where the effects of condensation are usually significant.
  • Remove the Window Pane – Before proceeding to install your window fan, you’ll have to remove the window pane. Removing the pane can be done easily with a double-pane window. All you have to do it is simply take it out of the casing. It’s recommended to substitute the glass with a Lexan section, which is a sturdy, see-through material that’s ideal for this situation. You can learn more about Lexan and what it’s made of here.
  • Trace the Fan onto the Lexan Section – Start by tracing the outline of the fan on the center on the Lexan section with the fan casing as a guide. To achieve optimal results, make sure that the fan’s casing is positioned level and straight before tracing it onto the Lexan piece.
  • Cut a Hole for the Fan – You can go about this in two ways. You can drill a hole in all the corners, then cut the Lexan material with a jigsaw. The other way is to score the Lexan piece with a glass cutter and then tap it out.The last method is much more efficient than the first, as it produces extremely clean cuts without leaving behind any ragged edges. The first method, on the other hand, can accidentally splinter the material and render it useless.
  • Install the Fan – After finishing with all the cutting and drilling, and after installing the Lexan section, you can now take the window and place it back into its casing. After that, remove the fan’s front cover and slide the motor into the casing.
  • Drill Holes for Screws – Place the case onto the Lexan piece and then mark the position of each mounting screw with a felt marker. Proceed by drilling the holes using a cordless drill. Make sure that you’re standing straight without taking any angled stance and drill directly into the Lexan.
  • Set the Fan Inside the Case – After drilling the necessary holes for the screws, set the case again onto the Lexan and start screwing in the screws. Follow this with adding some locking nuts, to ensure that the case is secured. Now, set the fan inside the casing, place the cover over the window fan, and plug it into the nearest power outlet. Voila, you’re all done!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can one fan perform intake and exhaustion of air at the same time?

There are a lot of models on the market that can perform double duty, just not at the same time.

But, you can use two reversible fans to achieve the desired outcome. One fan will draw in cool air from the outside, while the other fan pushes out the stale, warm air from the room.

Can window fans be damaged by water?

Window fans can very easily get wet during rainy weather conditions.

However, most high-quality models tend to be rust-resistant and have a water-resistant motor, which ensures a certain level of security against the rain. In case of heavy rain, it’s advised to turn the window fan off or even remove it completely, if possible, to ensure its longevity.

Can I close my windows with the window fan fitted in?

It depends on the type of window fan that you have.

The majority of single-blade fans allow you to close your window without having to take the fan out. On the other hand, some fans lack this ability and you’ll be forced to take them out manually to close the window.

If you’re looking for a more cost-efficient alternative to your air conditioning unit, these best window fan reviews may be for you.  Window fans can be viable AC replacements in some conditions and make for good investments if you want a particular area of the house to be well-ventilated.  The ones listed below are among the very best on the market now and should see your ventilation and cooling needs properly taken care of.

Bionaire Twin Reversible Airflow Window Fan

This fan has both a remote control and an onboard electronic one with an LCD screen.  It is designed for windows anywhere from 24 to 37 inches wide and comes with a programmable thermostat that turns it on or off automatically in order to maintain a set room temperature.  It has reversible blades, 3 speed settings, and water-resistant motors.  It supports both vertical and horizontal mounting.

Pros

  • Strong
  • Fans can be set to move air in directions independent of each other
  • Relatively quiet at the 2 lower speeds

Cons

  • No night-dimming/off switch for LEDs
  • Can be a little noisy in the switch from one speed to another when being managed automatically by the thermostat

This fan is a solid product with some nice motor muscle behind it.  It’s far from being a whole-house fan, but it’s still strong.  It can move a lot of air quickly and functions well whether on intake, exhaust, or exchange mode.  It’s not the quietest fan around, but it’s far from being the noisiest—at the lowest and middle speeds, it’s even decently quiet as far as these fans go.

Lasko 2155A Electrically Reversible Window Fan

This ETL-listed window fan is made for windows at least 22 inches tall and 26.5 to 34.5 inches wide.  The three 16-inch blades can be reversed so you can use them to blow air in as well as out.  The fan comes with a safety plug and also permits you to shut the window behind it when desired. Costs almost twice as much as the previous one.

Pros

  • Moves a lot of air
  • Reasonably quiet
  • Doesn’t impede window closure in bad weather

Cons

  • May not be sufficient for whole-house cooling in medium-to-large homes

This is an excellent fan for the money given how strong it is and how well it performs, but if your place is more than 3 rooms, it probably still won’t be enough to do whole-house cooling duty.  Nevertheless, it’s a powerful instrument, and it doesn’t put out as much noise as one might expect from its size.  With 16-inch blades, this is no baby, yet it operates very nearly as though it were one.

Whole House Window Fan

This AirKing model has huge 20-inch blades married to a 1/25HP motor.  The fan has 3 speeds, durable plastic housing, a front-mounted switch, and OSHA approval.  It is designed to fit windows 26.75 x 11.25 x 26.25 inches. More expensive than the previous one.

Pros

  • Feels quite durable
  • Storm Guard works
  • Decently strong

Cons

  • Can be noisy
  • A touch pricy

This fan isn’t among the cheapest, but it does have some nice features to justify its cost.  Among these are the 20-inch blades—these move a lot of air, and they will serve to cool most modest spaces within minutes even on warm days.  They can be noisy, though, although a big part of it might be improper mounting, as the fan tends to rattle if you haven’t mounted it the right way.  The casing is not all metal, but it still feels rather strong, so you do not have to worry that it will collapse after a few months of use.

Holmes Dual Blade 8” Twin Window Fan

This dual-bladed fan has 2 separate motors that can move independently of each other.  They are reversible, offer 2 speed settings, and carry 8.5in blades.  It comes with water-resistant motors and a 3-year limited warranty.  It also has a one-touch thermostat. It is priced on the lower end of the price scale.

Pros

  • Fairly easy to use
  • Comes with a thermostat for automated powering-on and shutdown
  • Moderately quiet

Cons

  • Could have better controls

This is a modest little fan with better performance than one might expect for its price.  It moves air well—just don’t expect to feel gusts—and is about as quiet as one might expect for a fan of this size.  The thermostat is a particularly useful feature.  It doesn’t have the best controls ever, but they’re easy enough to figure out; they’re just not as quick to set as many other fans’ controls are.  It’s also quite energy-efficient.  It will probably suit people who only need to cool single rooms.

Holmes Dual Blade 6” reversible Twin Window Fan

Fitted with a pair of 6-inch blades, this twin window fan is designed for slider and double-hung windows. It has 2 speed settings and water-resistant motors.  This is the cheapest one in our review.

Pros

  • Reasonably priced
  • Very easy to install
  • Comes with a screen that you can use as an extender

Cons

  • Blades cannot reverse flow by electronic control
  • A bit noisy

This is one of the smaller window fans, so of course it costs less than the rest of the items on this list.  Still, it’s reasonably priced. It won’t wow you with automation or electronic features like thermostats or independently-controlled twin motors.  Instead, it’s just a plain little window fan—and that’s probably what most of the people for whom it’s designed will like best about it.  It’s relatively low profile, easy to put in and put out, and is good value for the smaller rooms.

Conclusion

This really depends on the size of the space you need to cool, but most buyers will probably agree that the best buy here is the Lasko.  It’s not the biggest fan in the group, but it is a fantastic performer nonetheless and will cool more than one room quite effectively.  If your cooling needs are lower, you can go with the Bionaire instead, which has a number of really nice features to go with its decent muscle-power.

Presenting the Company

Due to the fact that Bionaire offers a lot of different fans and air products, we’ve already discussed the brand in some detail.

We’ve explored the history of the brand fully in our Bionaire window fan review article. You can read more if you want to know about who is making the products.

Presenting the Bionaire Tower Fans

The Bionaire range of tower fans has a few specific functions and features which set it apart.

When you look at these tower fans it is clear that you are not getting a cheap and flimsy option. Instead, you are getting a good level of reliability and plenty of tech features and controls.

Tower fans are good for those who want something which is free-standing, will cool a large room, and won’t take up valuable desk space or require a lot of specific installation. The Bionaire tower fans are portable and compact and therefore a good option for most homes.

Tower fans do a similar job to pedestal fans but are more compact and efficient. This article explores the pros and cons of both pedestal and tower fans.

Bionaire’s tower fan range isn’t the largest on the market.

They have a few different products to choose from including a mini tower fan. Because they don’t have as many tower fan products as some of the other manufacturers out there, you aren’t able to customize which you buy based on your home as much.

However, the few fans they offer aren’t short on features.

Tower Fans Features and Benefits

Bionaire fans feature plenty of controls which you can use either on the unit itself or via remote controls. The mini fans in their range do not have remote controls, but this is not surprising when you consider the fact that they cost significantly less.

You can choose the rotation and fan speed either on the unit or by using the remote. If you don’t want your fan going full blast all the time, some of the fans have ‘sleep’ and ‘breeze’ modes to allow more comfort to suit the temperature in the room.

Their products don’t come fully assembled, but this is relatively simple to do and you don’t even have to be great at DIY to build yours. Most tower fans need some form of construction but the fact that Bionaire construction is quite simple means that you will save time. You can see both the assembly and an example of how the Bionaire controls work in the video below:

Convenience is definitely something that Bionaire has taken into account in their manufacturing. Their tower fans are pretty compact in size, meaning they don’t take up too much valuable space in your home. In spite of being compact, they offer “wide area oscillation” which maximizes the space covered in the rotation of the fan.

All of the models in the range are easy to carry with carry-handles allowing you to move them around your home.

The mini model in the range has a big benefit of being very affordable. For those who need a cheap and easy tower fan, this can be a good option. All of the models they offer are good value for money. Even as the features increase such as in the 36 Inch Remote Control Tower Fan, the price stays pretty reasonable.

I’ve picked out some of the top models in the Bionaire range of tower fans and reviewed them here to help you easily find their best models.

The popular Bionaire bt440rc fan is no longer available, as it has been discontinued. Instead, I’ve reviewed some of the newer Bionaire tower fans, to show the options that can currently be bought.

The Bionaire reviews below include both smaller, more portable options and larger, 40-inch tower fans.

Bionaire Tower Fan Reviews

Bionaire BT014-U Personal Space Mini Tower Fan

The Bionaire BT014-U is a positive option for people who don’t have a lot of space or just want a cooling solution that is compact and not an eyesore. Not many other brands offer such a small fan that doesn’t compromise on power.

Pros

  • Small and slim, meaning it fits into pretty much any space, whether on a table or the floor.
  • Quiet model of tower fan and can operate with just a small amount of white noise.
  • Oscillation function, which increases the area it covers in spite of its compact size.
  • Has an integrated carrying handle, which means you can move it from one space to another with ease.

Cons

  • No remote control. Many modern tower fans come with a remote control, so you can make alterations without having to get up – great if you are on the couch or in bed.
  • Only two speed options – many tower fans have three speeds or more. The low speed is also quite low and doesn’t provide much power.

Generally, the Bionaire BT014-U is a quality option and has a good level of power for such a small model. Its portability makes it one of the best choices if you want to move your fan around your home.

Bionaire BTF4011AR-BU Tower Fan, 40 Inches

A larger Bionaire fan, the BTF4011AR-BU is 40-inches in height and, though it sacrifices a little portability for more power, it is a decent option if you don’t mind something which takes up a bit more space.

Pros

  • Five different speed settings, as well as sleep mode and breeze mode.
  • Automatic shut-off setting can be set much like a sleep timer, which cycles through its different modes in sequence when it is on.
  • LED control panel on the top of the fan is very simple to use and the fan also comes with a remote control, to allow you to make changes without having to get up.
  • Thin design – not a small fan, but doesn’t take up too much floor space, due to how thin it is.
  • One of the models in the Bionaire tower fan range with sloping technology, which means even when it sits on the floor it points upwards to increase airflow at a useful height, rather than pointing at your legs!

Cons

  • One of the noisier fans out there – especially on the high setting, it can make a lot of white noise. On top of this, it has also been known to make a bit of a rattling noise. Some people enjoy white noise and can find it helpful for sleeping, but rattling isn’t ideal.
  • It is tricky to get the base and the tower fan unit itself to line up perfectly when you are putting it together out of the box.

If power is your number one priority, the Bionaire BTF4011AR-BU Tower Fan could be worth taking a look at, but just keep in mind that it is far from the quietest fan option. If you’re not keen on white noise, or think it may keep you awake, you might want to look at other fans in the range.

Bionaire BT36R-BU 36 Tower Fan with Remote Control

This Bionaire 36 inch tower fan is a little smaller than the BTF4011AR-BU fan and it is quite thin, but it still takes up some floor space. It is also quite a convenient model, but another fan that makes a fair amount of noise. Some people don’t mind this, but it is definitely worth considering.

Pros

  • Streamlined black design blends in with pretty much any home decor and doesn’t take up a huge amount of space.
  • Three different speed settings to choose from.
  • 8-hour timer.
  • Comes with breeze and sleep modes, during which it cycles through its different modes.
  • Quite lightweight and easy to move for a relatively hefty fan, although not as portable as the Personal Space model.

Cons

  • Very noisy when compared to many other models. Noise can also worsen over time. Even on the lowest fan setting, it can be quite loud.

Generally speaking, this is a decent quality fan and the controls are good, but if you aren’t a fan of a lot of white noise, this might not be the fan option for you.

Bionaire Tower Fan Review: Conclusion

Winner

The Bionaire BT014-U is the winner on our list of the top Bionaire tower fans. It has a small and compact design, which makes it portable and easy to use, but it is also pretty good in terms of its power.

I love that you can put it on a tabletop or on the floor, depending on what you need. The carry handle shows that it is meant to be moved from place to place. The BT014-U is also good if you are looking for a quiet tower fan, as it doesn’t create a lot of unwanted noise.

Another benefit of this particular model is that it doesn’t require the same level of assembly as some of the competing fans on the market.

The other fans on our list may be noisier, but are more powerful and have the extra benefit of being able to be remotely controlled.

Since the ever-popular Bionaire bt440rc fan was discontinued, people are looking at other choices within the brand’s range and the Bionaire models we have covered here in our review article show what is currently on the market.

More About The Innovative Dyson Brand

This isn’t the first time I’ve featured Dyson here on the site. Their range is growing all the time and, in one of my previous review posts, I discussed the history of this innovative British brand. You can check it out here.

Are Dyson Fans for You?

The debate between Dyson fans vs other brands and which is better reminds me of the debate between Apple computers and a more budget brand. There are plenty of people satisfied with cheaper models that can do the job, but for elite features, a sleek look, and brilliant customer care, Apple is very appealing.

Dyson is the same and, although you may pay a little extra, if you can afford a Dyson fan, you will probably find it reliable and long-lasting.

The brand also promises those little added extras that make the difference. They offer two-day delivery anywhere in the USA, a 30-day money back guarantee if you aren’t satisfied, and a two-year warranty.

The ideal Dyson fan customer is someone who doesn’t mind spending a little more to get deluxe features and a high level of reliability. Also, if you appreciate high-end design and a classy, high-tech look, this brand is almost guaranteed to satisfy. As well as being effective, Dyson fans simply look good in modern homes.

Before you make any purchase, you should think about what you need from your Dyson fan and the most suitable fan type for you. The brand offers a wide variety of fans, some of which I’ve already covered here on the site.

Check out my Dyson bladeless fan review and my Dyson pedestal fan review, so you can evaluate the differences and see which type is best for you. Dyson desk fans and personal fans are available, too.

Think about the space you plan to put the fan in, how much power you need, whether it needs to be small and compact, or if you have the space for a larger model.

What Makes the Dyson Fan Range Special?

The Dyson range has some top features that carry through all of their products. The included technology is part of why these fans cost a little more, but it’s also what makes Dyson a top-of-the-line brand.

Dyson is one of the most innovative home brands on the market, today. They began with vacuum cleaners but have now expanded their product line to heating and cooling products. Let’s look at some of Dyson’s ingenious integrated technology.

Air Multiplying Technology

Air multiplying technology uses the Bernoulli principle to lower the air pressure behind the fan and draw the air through the center. This creates much more airflow than a regular fan (up to 15 times more) and, therefore, makes the surrounding temperature feel cooler.

The video below shows a visual demonstration of how air multiplying technology works.

Quiet Operation

Not only is the motor quiet, operating within the base of the fan, but Dyson fans also feature special technology that sends the sound created by the fan through a chamber. This keeps the noise at around 1000 Hz, which is a sound resembling a low hum.

This special chamber is called a Helmholtz cavity and this article explains how it gives the brand more control over fan noise.

Brushless and Aerodynamic Motors

The motors inside Dyson fans are cleverly designed to keep energy use at a minimum, making them more efficient than other brands. Brushless motors are generally far more efficient than other types of fan motors and offer variable levels of power and multiple settings. This means that Dyson fans create a lot of airflow without using a lot of energy, thus saving you money.

Easy to Clean

Not many fans are as easy to clean as the Dyson range. Because there are no blades, there is no awkward grille to get behind. Instead, you can simply wipe away any dust on the surface of the fan, in a matter of seconds.

Product Review

In this article, we will do a Dyson fan review and compare it with other bladeless fans made by different brands. You will learn why Dyson fans are so good and whether they are worth paying for them their price.

Dyson AM02 Tower Fan

The Dyson AM02 is the “older” 39.7-inch tower fan using Dyson’s Air Multiplier technology for bladeless breeze creation.  It is one of the brand’s bigger bladeless fans, making it suitable for whole room cooling.  It also comes with an oscillation feature as well as a remote control. Like all of the other Dyson fans, it offers stability via a base-mounted motor, precision through a dimmer switch, and ease of maintenance via the lack of blades and grilles.

Features

  • Air Multiplier bladeless fan technology draws air from behind the base and draws in more air through the loop via entertainment, resulting in a 14x force multiplication of the original air drawn in to start the process
  • Grille-less and blade-less for easy cleaning
  • Dimmer switch
  • Remote control
  • Energy-efficient DC motor

Pros

  • Much quieter than bladed fans
  • Has a small footprint due to a slim profile
  • Magnetized remote control makes it easy to keep it with the fan whenever not in use
  • Good-looking, modern minimalist design
  • Soft, natural-feeling breeze settings
  • Produces consistent air flow
  • Very stable base
  • Excellent oscillation movement

Cons

  • Pricy even though it is now an older model
  • Can be noisy at the highest settings
  • Doesn’t produce as much wind/airflow as a regular (bladed) fan
  • Airflow weakens noticeably when the user’s distance passes 10 feet from the fan

Conclusion

The AM02 is actually Dyson’s older model for its bladeless tower fans, but a lot of people may be looking to acquire it now that the newer version (the AM07) has driven the AM02’s price down.  The price reduction is not much so that may make some think twice about it even now.  However, it does have a lot of good points in its favor.  Dyson engineered the first bladeless fans and it shows in the AM02’s performance, which is still better than a lot of bladeless fans on the market today.

Comparison

Nevertheless, there are quite a number of competitors to Dyson’s products now.  Two worth mentioning in comparison to the AM02 is the Bionaire BDF2011A-BM and Lasko AC600.  The Lasko is nearer the AM02 in size, while the Bionaire is shorter than both at 20 inches.

PureFlow QT7

The pureFlow QT7 bladeless fan is an alternative to the Dyson bladeless fan range and is more affordable. It uses airflow technology similar to that seen in Dyson fans, to provide powerful cooling with no exposed blades. It also has a modern look and it is quite an elegantly designed product.

Pros

  • Has a clever 90-degree tilt, as well as horizontal oscillation – to create high airflow in all directions, while being compact.
  • Energy efficient – has twice the coverage of a ‘standard’ fan with just two watts of electricity. Affordable to run, even for long periods of time.
  • 12 different fan speeds with a huge level of difference between them – from a cool breeze to a powerful gust. Easy to control and speeds can be altered either on the fan or by remote control.
  • No exposed blades. You don’t have to worry about your kids or pets getting hurt, as the blades are hidden.

Cons

  • Doesn’t have the same airflow power as the Dyson brand, even on the highest setting.
  • Annoying beep sound when changing settings.

Lasko AC600 Air Logic Bladeless Tower Fan

The Lasko AC600 is a 36-inch bladeless fan equipped with the brand’s ion technology to promote freshness.  It comes fully assembled and with a remote control unit in addition to the EZtouch controls onboard the fan itself.  It oscillates and comes with a timer for auto-power-off.

Features

  • 36-inch height
  • Washable and replaceable filter + ionizer
  • One-touch control for removing the filter for easy maintenance
  • Oscillation feature
  • Programmable timer can be set for up to 8 hours
  • Fully assembled
  • Remote control
  • 4-speed settings available

Pros

  • Ionizer + filter technology
  • Good airflow
  • Rather good-looking, unique design
  • Quite affordably priced

Cons

  • Can get loud
  • Poor remote control range

Conclusion

This is a fine example of the more affordable bladeless tower fans, and it does work sufficiently well to merit its price.  It has acceptable airflow, oscillation, and programmable shut-off.  These are all things that one tends to expect from bladeless fans given that they are supposedly the latest in fan technology.  It also has sufficiently striking looks to make it a conversation piece.  It does not have the best remote control, though, and gets progressively noisier as you turn it up.  That said, it is still a good fan for the money and no embarrassment to Lasko.

First Choice

The Dyson AM02 tower fan is a solid option and truly built to last. And, although there are competing products out there, it is still the fan I recommend if you are happy to spend the money.

It is very sturdy, easy to clean, and fits the bill if you are looking for a top-of-the-line bladeless fan that creates a lot of airflow.

If I was asked to choose a winner out of the fans mentioned in this post, the Dyson AM02 tower fan would definitely be my top choice. It is sturdier than the Bionaire bladeless fan I used to have and likely to last longer, despite the fact that it is more expensive. BTW, the Bionaire fan is no longer manufactured.

Blue Dyson fan in a living room #towerFan #fan #fans #whatfans #dyson #homeDecor #interiorDesign #livingRoom

Second Choice

But, while the Dyson AM02 is my top pick, there are other good options out there which shouldn’t be ignored, especially if you are on a budget or you just don’t want to invest as much money as a Dyson fan requires.

Other brands feature air multiplication technology, rather than traditional blades, to create efficient, high-quality fans for a much lower price. While the Lasko AC600 Air Logic bladeless tower fanis a quiet, well-made option, the clever oscillation, energy-efficiency, and 12 different levels of power make the above mentioned PureFlow QT7 my second most recommended product.

The PureFlow fan is extremely energy-efficient, just like a Dyson fan, meaning you won’t spend more than you need to in order to cool your home. These features make it a good alternative to the Dyson AM02, especially if you don’t need a huge amount of power, as the QT7’s highest setting doesn’t quite have the same cooling ability as the Dyson.

Dyson Bladeless Fan Review: How Does It Stand Against Other Bladeless Fans?

Dyson Bladeless Fan Review

Dyson is a huge brand in the world of home products, but recently I noticed more and more of my friends were buying their bladeless fans.

I wanted to know why people were shifting to this brand, which is best known for its other household products.

What is the fuss about? Are these fans up to scratch or should Dyson stick to the niche of vacuum cleaners? We explore more in this Dyson bladeless fan review.

Presenting the Company

James Dyson is a British engineer and he founded his company in 1991.

Since then the company has grown to a value of over $3 billion, but this has mainly been down to the incredible sales of vacuum cleaners. Their bagless designs and Dual Cyclone technology revolutionized the world of vacuums.

They weren’t done there, though. Eventually, the Dyson company moved into manufacturing other products such as hairdryers and their innovative bladeless fans. As people have become more understanding of the benefits of bladeless, there have been more and more companies trying to compete with Dyson on this.

The first bladeless fan in the range was manufactured in 2009. Now, it is pretty clear that they are trying to monopolize a lot of different areas and they have launched fan heaters and humidifiers since then!

In their history of over 25 years, the company hasn’t been bought out by an investment fund or holding company and they remain independent. They have also not purchased other home brands and continue to operate as a standalone.

The Dyson brand has a real reputation for innovation as well as being eco-friendly and exceptionally efficient.

It may not be the top priority people should have when they are choosing their fan, but there is nothing wrong with wanting the items in your home to look classy. We decorate our homes to make sure they look good, after all! The Dyson bladeless fans may look a little futuristic, but are sleek and classy and can fit in with almost any home decor.dyson am07

Presenting Dyson Bladeless Fans

The bladeless fans within the Dyson range are…well, bladeless! This is the key selling point as well as the name!

The technology creates an airflow by drawing air in and then pushing it out in another part of the fan, so it is totally different from a fan with blades, but does the same job.

Toshiba was the first company to actually prototype a fan design without blades back in the 1980s.

However, it wasn’t something they pursued, and the real breakthroughs in this area were made by Dyson. Like they revolutionized vacuum cleaners, Dyson revolutionized fans when they made the first ever bladeless fans available to the consumer in 2009.

dyson am07 tower fan

The brand comes with a promise of being a lot safer, more efficient and quieter than traditional fans which have blades, as well as having loads of other great features.

They’re aimed at people who are willing to spend a little more. Bladeless fans are more expensive than other types anyway, and these products are not the cheapest bladeless fans.

Since the bladeless fans were introduced, a lot of different copycat products have been created and there are some budget versions which use similar technology.

The ideal Dyson customer is someone who wants the very best and probably someone who likes their products with a bit of style, too. The bladeless fans are reliable, but the price tag they come with probably means that you should buy them if your fan gets a lot of use within your home.

Features and Benefits

Naturally, there are no visible or exposed blades on the bladeless fan, this is the whole point. The technology basically works by drawing huge amounts of air through an inlet in its body and then forcing these through an outlet.

The fact that the fans are ring-shaped creates a low pressure as it slows down using inducement. This results in cooler, fresher air by creating an airflow without the ‘chopping’ of a standard blade.

Sounds confusing? Who better to explain the way the fan works than inventor Sir James Dyson himself:

The video above is from the launch around a decade ago. Since then, the brand has introduced newer models and honed their technology to be even more effective.

The benefits of Dyson bladeless fans include:

  • They’re much safer around pets and children. You don’t have to risk your kid getting curious if you leave the room for a few minutes and getting injured on the blades. The same applies to pets who might think that the fan is some sort of plaything.
  • Bladeless fans can be much quieter. As they don’t have the constant ‘chopping’ of the air to create an airflow, bladeless fans can be very good for rooms where you need to be quiet such as in an office or bedroom if you struggle to sleep at night with the noise of a bladed fan. This article on the fans, published by Wired magazine, explains that the bladeless models are 75% quieter!
  • Dyson bladeless technology is excellent for energy use and efficiency. This can save money in the long run and helps you to offset the cost of the bladeless fan. The “Hot and Cool” model, which can both heat and cool your home, is around 30% cheaper than traditional methods of heating and cooling.

Dyson Air Multiplier AM07 Tower Fan

The AM07 is Dyson’s new version of its best-selling AM02.

The new version still comes with the classic Air Multiplier technology permitting bladeless fan function, but it also combines those with redesigned and streamlined air channels.  This results in the AM07 being 60% quieter than the AM02, and in also being more energy-efficient.  It comes with a sleep timer and a magnetized remote control.

Features

  • Air Multiplier bladeless fan technology
  • 6-inch height
  • Improved channel design has led to 60% reduction in noise (compared to AM02)
  • Magnetic remote control that can be stored on the unit
  • 10 airflow settings
  • Sleep timer goes from 15 minutes to 9 hours
  • Grille-less and bladeless construction for safety and easy maintenance
  • Stable due to base-mounted motor
  • Whole room cooling

Pros

  • Very quiet, especially on the lower speed settings
  • Stays true to the Dyson modern and minimalist design
  • Good airflow for a bladeless fan
  • Good oscillation range
  • Convenient and attractive remote control design
  • Consistent and natural-feeling airflow
  • Very easy to assemble

Cons

  • Costly
  • Still not as powerful as a bladed fan

Conclusion

Dyson’s fans were the first to come out with bladeless technology, so it is perhaps little surprise that they are also among the most expensive.  The AM07 may seem pricy at first, but a close review of it does make clear that the money is warranted, especially when it comes to smoothness and silence of operation.  The AM07 is among the most powerful bladeless fans on the market right now. That alone gives it great value.

Comparison

There are nevertheless competitors to consider, to be sure.  The AM07’s price will lead many to hesitate, so the often-cheaper alternatives like Lasko’s AC600 definitely have a niche in the market.  Among these alternatives, interestingly enough, is the AM07’s precursor, the AM02, which has had a reduction in price due to the AM07’s release.

Lasko AC600 Air Logic Bladeless Tower Fan

Lasko’s AC600 is a bladeless tower fan with a height of 36 inches.  It requires no assembly and can be remote-controlled.  It also has oscillation, a programmable timer, and an ionizer that helps keep the air it circulates fresh.

Features

  • 36-inch tower fan
  • Ionizer technology
  • Easy-to-remove and washable filter
  • Oscillates
  • Programmable timer
  • Remote-controlled
  • Multiple speed settings programmed into the product out of the box

Pros

  • Ionizer helps keep air clean and fresh
  • Airflow is not bad
  • Interesting and modern design
  • Affordable

Cons

  • Loud at the higher settings
  • Shabby range on the remote control

Conclusion

This Lasko model is one of the better bladeless tower fans when it comes to circulation (although this still does not mean you can expect the same circulation as a bladed fan, naturally).  It also comes with all the bells and whistles one would expect of the better tower fans: a timer, an oscillation feature, and a remote control (albeit a slightly poor one).  Its good looks do not hurt it either.  It may not be the quietest bladeless fan, especially at the higher speeds, but it fares decently compared to most of its competitors.

Dyson AM02 Tower Fan

This is the precursor to the AM07—a 39.7-inch tower fan for whole room cooling.  It oscillates, is remote-controlled, and uses Air Multiplier technology. It also has a dimmer switch to make airflow adjustment easier.

Features

  • Air Multiplier technology
  • Modern, streamlined design
  • Dimmer switch
  • Remote control designed to magnetically attach to tower unit when not in use
  • Energy-efficient DC motor

Pros

  • Relatively quiet
  • Slim profile makes it easy to fit into tighter spaces
  • Magnetic remote control unit
  • Consistent airflow
  • Stable and sturdy
  • Oscillation has good range and is very smooth

Cons

  • Pricy even though it is an older model
  • Can be noisy when put on the highest setting

Conclusion

The ancestor of the AM07 is obviously going to be slightly less than it in many ways—slightly less powerful, and definitely less quiet, for instance.  However, it is still no slouch.  Dyson pioneered the bladeless fan movement and the AM07 has long been one of its most popular products.  Even when compared to some of today’s (other-brand) bladeless fans, it still performs more solidly, giving it real value to justify its high cost.  It also has the traditional Dyson construction, which is reassuringly solid and stable.  All in all, this old model can still offer some people a great experience in bladeless fanning.

Verdict

All three of these tower fans have good air output and are reasonably quiet, especially when compared to other bladeless fans.  By far the one with the best performance in both these markers of excellence is the Dyson AM07, which is to be expected.  This is the latest model of all three, not to mention one coming from the pioneers of bladeless fan technology.  Besides, the other two models also tend to produce a significant amount of noise when put on the highest speed: the AM07, by contrast, still stays relatively tolerable when “turned up” all the way.

Utility-wise, all three are much the same.  The Dyson models do have a slight advantage in remote control range, though, as the Lasko has such a weak remote control.  The Dyson remote controls also have the special feature of being magnetically attachable to the tower fan units, which is something the Lasko remote control does not.  But actual operation is about equal for all of them.  The same goes for looks, with the two Dysons being near-indistinguishable and the Lasko having a more angular but still attractive design.  It may be in terms of price that most people would really see the differences between them, though, especially with two of them being closely priced (the AM07 and the AM02) and the last one (the Lasko) being much lower in price.

However, if price is not to be the primary determiner of the best unit, the AM07 would win hands-down.

It is stronger and far, far quieter than the other two, meaning it will not only give you better air circulation but also with far less acoustic irritation—and that can make all the difference when you have to live with a fan for the better part of the day or the night.

It also happens to be more energy-efficient than the other two as a result of its updated design.  That means lower power consumption and a smaller power bill.

Finally, it boasts the sturdiness of a classic Dyson construction, which is another thing to consider if you do not fancy getting a fan that will break down at the smallest bump. In short, it is the best product for the money among all three, even if it does demand the most money.

Presenting Lasko Company

Lasko was founded from a store in Philadelphia over 100 years ago.

The humble beginnings that the brand started with were soon to be outgrown, and over the years they have grown to be the largest producer of portable fans and heaters in the USA as well as having a range of other products.

The brand started in 1906 and started by making metal products. Over time this spread to a range of fans, household heaters, and other small appliances. Once they’d grown, they started manufacturing products on a larger scale in Tennessee and in Texas.

The brand has become international in the modern era.

In 2016, it was announced the brand would be bought by Comvest Partners (“Comvest”) in partnership with JW Levin Management Partners (“JWLMP”)

Lasko’s website says they are committed to high-performance, quality and value in all of their range of products. It is hardly going to say otherwise, but this is one of the companies who you believe when they say they care about the consumer. There is a reason they are stocked by so many big brands and retailers, too.

In terms of the selection of fans, Lasko produces almost every type imaginable, from bladeless to desktop and of course, tower fans. The tower fan range is what we are exploring here.

Lasko Tower Fan Range

Lasko’s range of fans is huge.

Even within the tower fan range, there are dozens of models, sizings and configurations. The brand is modern and embraces some filtration and technology features that other ranges of fans simply don’t.

For people who need something which is free standing but isn’t too intrusive or bulky, and doesn’t take a huge amount of space in the home, the range can be very useful. Tower fans often have multiple oscillators which can give a bit of a boost of power, so they’re good for hot homes, too.

Ask yourself what you need from your fan before you buy. Will a desk fan really have enough power? A tower fan isn’t always the cheapest but they can provide a cooler environment and might be quieter than other options, too.

Though it isn’t a top priority for fans, the Lasko tower fan range is also good for people who care about the looks of the items they’re putting in their home! They look quite stylish and compact.

Features & Benefits of Lasko Tower Fans

Naturally, the features of each tower fan in their range all have their own selling points. All have multiple speeds.

Ionizer

Many of the tower fans feature an Ionizer. This is built-in to the product and isn’t something that requires maintenance. It creates negative ions (this is a good thing) and then releases them in an effort to make the air feel fresher. It lowers levels of air pollution and makes it feel like you’re sitting outdoors.

For more details on what an Ionizer is, and the benefits it can have for a room, this handy guide can walk you through it.

Remote

Remote controls are also a feature among the tower fans in this range.

Lasko remotes are great, as they have a very simple interface. They also work at up to a 15 feet range, which is plenty of space for most of us. You might think a remote is overkill, but if you’re lying comfortably in bed and start to feel overly hot, being able to switch on the fan without having to get up is a blessing.

Timer

Other technology features which can be really useful include the timer. You can set your alarm to come on or turn off at a time which is suitable. For instance, have the fan turn on 30 minutes before you get home for a cool room waiting for you after work. Alternatively, if you know that you won’t need the fan on all night, you can set it to turn off after a while once the temperature has dropped and you are fast asleep.

Curved Design

Something that many Lasko fans offer is a curved design across the multiple blades of a fan. This means that the cool air disperses better around the room, and is preferred by people who are covering a larger space with their tower fan.

Noise

The noise produced by these fans varies from model to model within the range.

Though there are quieter models on the market than some Lasko products, they are certainly not excessively loud.

Safety Plugs

One thing that is only offered within the Lasko range is their patented safety plug.

This is on both their fans and their humidifiers. The device shuts off any electric current if there is a fault detected within the motor or the power supply. This can help to avoid potentially hazardous issues some fans (or power supplies) can develop over time.

Lasko 2554 Review

First, let’s start with a popular tower fan.

The model 2554 is also known as the 42-inch Wind Curve tower fan from Lasko, and it comes with an option for a CARB-compliant ionizer to optimize the freshness of the air it is circulating.

It has an electronic timer that can be set for any period from 30 minutes to 7.5 hours, 3 speeds, optional oscillation, a remote control, and a storage area for the remote control unit on the tower itself.  The tower also has an easy-carry handle and wood-grain accents.

Features

  • (LWH) 13x13x42.5 inches
  • Remote control
  • Storage nook for remote control on the tower
  • Electronic timer for automatic shutdown
  • Easy-carry handle
  • Ionizer
  • Oscillation switch
  • Wind Curve profile
  • Patented safety fuse technology on the plug

Pros

  • Ionizer means it blows out very fresh air
  • Very minimal noise when operating
  • Oscillates
  • Has a cooling effect on air
  • Aesthetically pleasing

Cons

  • Remote control only works if it is pointing straight at the fan’s front panel

Conclusion

Lasko 2554 Wind Curve model costs about right for fans of its size. This 42-inch tower also checks every box in the quality fan criteria list: it’s pretty, it’s quiet, it’s strong, it oscillates, it’s easy to use and it’s remote-controlled. It even adds such convenient perks as an electronic timer and an ionizer.  The remote control is perhaps the only place where it begins to stick, as the RC unit has such a limited range of operation.  Despite that, the 2554 is still more than worth the money it costs.

How Is It Compared With Other Models?

Lasko actually puts out a number of other tower fans that the 2554 would be worth comparing to.

Two great examples are 2511 and the 2519.  Both are actually smaller fans than the 2554.  Nevertheless, both could technically be considered alternatives for buyers looking into the 2554.

Lasko 2511 Tower Fan

This 36-inch fan comes with Lasko’s patented safety plug technology and standard electronic touch controls.  It is remote-controlled and has optional oscillation.  It also comes with onboard storage for the remote control unit.

Features

  • (LWH) 12 x 12 x 36
  • Remote-controlled
  • Onboard storage for remote control unit on the tower
  • Programmable timer
  • Oscillation switch
  • 3 speeds
  • Easy-grip handle

Pros

  • Quiet on the lower settings
  • Easy to operate
  • Has a timer
  • Very light and easy to carry

Cons

  • Oscillation range is very narrow (even more narrow than the 2554’s)
  • Could have a longer cord

Conclusion

This 36-inch tower fan is a fine example of its type, although it does tend to fall behind a number of its rivals in terms of the actual amount of air it moves.  It is not weak, to be clear: just not “a real powerhouse”, as far as fans go.  That said, it does consistently push out cool air and is easy to operate.  It may not work for those who want something much larger or who have much bigger rooms to cool, but for the money and despite its faults, it remains a good product.

Lasko 2519 Wind Tower Fan

The 2519 is Lasko’s 38-inch tower fan model.  It comes with a remote control, an oscillation switch, and 3 speeds.  It also comes with an electronic timer.

Features

  • (LWH) 12 x 12 x 38 inches
  • Remote-controlled
  • Has storage for the remote control unit on the fan
  • Oscillation feature
  • Electronic timer that goes up to 7 hours
  • Easy-carry handle
  • Patented, safety plug

Pros

  • Very quiet
  • Sturdy
  • Stable base

Cons

  • Remote control unit has limited range of operation

Conclusion

This is the next step up from the 2511, and it does push out more air than that model as a result.  It is not overly powerful for a 38-incher, though, so keep that in mind. It fares much like the 2511 in that respect.  However, it is also still much better than most other competitors, so it is far from a bad purchase at it’s price.  Its total package of features gives it serious value, as does its overall sturdiness of construction.

Verdict

These are all fairly similar fans—which is hardly surprising given that they all come from the same manufacturer.

They share a number of features as a result.

Features

First is the easy-carry handle, which most Lasko models have.

Second is the remote control, which seems to be a common feature for Lasko’s tower fan units.  One might as well include the onboard storage it builds for those remote controls.

Then there is the programmable timer for automating the fan’s shutdown.

Finally, there is the fused safety plug.

All of these features are good things, quite obviously.

This has definitely had good results for the brand, which is one of the top sellers of tower fans at the moment.  Nevertheless, this does not mean its models do not also share some drawbacks across their designs.

Drawbacks

All three of the Lasko tower fans listed here have remote controls with lackluster range, for instance: they tend not to register unless you have them aligned perfectly in front of the tower fans.

All three are also afflicted by the classic weakness of the tower fan when compared to the windmill fan: they don’t move as much air as their windmill competitors.

That said, they do tend to produce cooler air than most windmills, and even compared to most other tower fans.  They also work very smoothly, being famously user-friendly in their controls as well as offering very quiet fanning compared to the competition.

There are naturally individual differences, but they are minor.

Premium Features

Strength is obviously related to size, so the three models discussed here would have different strengths compared to each other.  There are also premium features that differentiate at least one (the 2554) from the others, like the ionizer.  Finally, there is the Wind Curve profile and the accenting on the 2554, which is easily the handsomest of the three.

Are these minor differences sufficient to merit calling the 2554 the best model?

Yes, overall.

The upgrade in power makes a big difference in the amount of air the unit moves, rendering it capable of dealing with both small and big rooms.

The overall construction also feels more solid on the 2554 compared to the other two, besides making it look better.  Furthermore, the ionizer really makes a difference.  In sum, this may be the most expensive model but it also offers the most value for your money.
